The Dangers of Mind Distance to God – Pastor Michael A. Oke
God does not need the service of the sycophant or the orator whose mouths are their pot of soup as His worshipers. Rather, He needs people whose minds are so glued with Him in spirit and truth.
Text: Mathew 15:8
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Four Dangers of Mind Distance to God.
When your mind is not closer to God, the following will happen:
- Your relationship with Him won’t be stronger and cordial.
– This will create unfriendly feelings in you towards God.
– Uncordial relationship between you and God will create a communication gap. This is the reason why the bible says: Job 22:21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
2. God will relate with you as a visitor.
– When God is a visitor to you, you will find it difficult to enjoy His unlimited blessings. A visitor can only visit you occasionally and go back.
– And whenever he visits there’s a limit to what you can disclose to him since he’s a visitor.
– At this level, it is not expected that God should be a visitor to us. Rather He should abide with us. John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
3. God may not recognize your voice.
– Of a truth, it is rare to recognize someone you know at a distance.
– If your mind is not closer to God, there is no way He would grant you voice recognition.
– The danger is, if you seek Him, you won’t find Him. Pro 1:28
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
– But it will open if your mind is closer to God before you knock on His door. Isaiah 65:24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
4. You won’t be sure of your confidence in God.
– A critical finding shows that those whose minds are far from God always develop one major problem:
– The problem is, they always have a form of godliness but deny the power of God thereof. Because their minds are not closer to God, they won’t be able to enjoy the demonstration of God’s power, hence, they live in doubt. 2 Tim 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof…
– Even though they see the demonstration and hear it, yet don’t believe it.
APPLICATION:
– God does not need the service of the sycophant or the orator whose mouths are their pot of soup as His worshipers. Rather, He needs people whose minds are so glued with Him in spirit and truth. John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
God bless you.
