Five Proactive Measures To Escape Famine- Pastor Michael Oke

Text Gen 41: 56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

1. After praying against famine, still prepare for it.

Gen 41:1-8 (The almighty God forewarned King Pharaoh in Egypt of the impending famine)

1. 1. In some instances, God forewarns His people when a famine is coming upon the land.
   2. At times, the famine may not come immediately, it could take some years.
   3. At times, there could be indications in the nation’s economy sending signals to the citizens that famine is coming.
2. Do not ignore the warning of famine, rather, apply precautions.

Gen 41: 37And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.

2. 1. The wise will never toy with the words of wisdom, but the fool will jettison them.
   2. A credit should be given to King Pharaoh for embracing the warning of famine in Egypt, despite being a pagan king, he believed the message of the almighty God.
3. Create a Silo, then begin to save little by little.

Gen 41: 48-49 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same. 49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.

What are those things you need to save?

3. 1. Save money. Joseph saved corn in those days, but you should save money.
   2. protect your utilities and utilize them very judiciously. For example, cars, clothes, electronic gadgets, etc. as the cost of commodities would prevent many from buying new ones. 

Pro 30:25The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer.

3. 3. If you intend to build a house, build moderately so that you will have money to eat.
4. Fear no famine, rather, take it as a means of wealth creation.

Gen 41: 56And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt. 57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

4. 1. As a wise child of God, develop an ideal with which you can be greatly prosperous during scarcity.
   2. Think about how you can be prosperous during scarcity.
   3. It is very much possible that you can be greatly enriched during the famine.
   4. God was enriching Joseph and King Pharaoh during the period of lack in the land. 
5. Cease from flamboyant life.

Eze 7:24 Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled.

5. 1. Flamboyant living may not help you at this time, otherwise, the armed robbers will pursue you, and the poor too will also be ready to ravage your resources.
   2. Stop every form of splendid display. When you live simply, you will sleep soundly.
   3. Stop all forms of wastage.
   4. Stop wasting money on sinful partners, remember, when there is no money, the partner will desert you. Manage your resources very well.
   5. As you pray against famine, plans also for it.
